Resources I love!

Here is a list of the some on-line resources that I feel can help enhance learning in the classroom, help you stay organized, or just have some fun in your spare time.

I recently found this great new resource called iMindMap5.  If you like using mind maps as brainstorming tools in your classroom then this one is for you.  It is a program you download on to your computer and then get a 7 day trial of the Ultimate version of the program, then you just get the basic.  I find the basic package to be by far enough.  The program allows you to create mind maps easily and converts them to presentations in a flash if you want.  Mind Maps are a great way to activate students and this makes it easy, thanks ThinkBuzan for creating this great program. http://www.thinkbuzan.com/intl/

Prezi!! I love prezi.  It creates beautiful and active presentations.  They are kind of like power point only a thousand times better.  I will not lie, it takes a little getting use to but if you can use power point then you can use prezi.  It works great because it stores the presentation on-line so you can access it anywhere or work collaboratively within a group.  I definitely recommend you try it out once and I assure you you will be hooked.  The photo to the left is a presentation I created, if you click on it, you can take a look at it. Otherwise go to prezi.com and browse through some other presentation and try it out for yourself.

Weebly.  If you are planning on creating a classroom website, then I recommend weebly.  It is simple to use, free for educators and makes atractive websites.  I have made 2 websites using Weebly so far.  One was a mock classroom website for a grade 9 science class, the other was a eprotfolio.  I really enjoy using weebly and  I am sure you will to so check it out at www.weebly.com

Wordle is amazing, fun and easy to use. I would use it to brainstorm with students about a topic at the beginning of a unit.  Another great use for Wordle is reviewing vocabulary.  Wordle allows words that your enter more to appear bigger so more important vocabulary words can be larger so students recognise the importance of these words.  www.wordle.net

Glogster is a great way to make attractive posters that will engage your students or get your students to create them for a project.  I challenge you to go to www.glogster.com and check out what some teachers and students have done with glogster and then not use it in your classroom.  This is very fun and easy to use.  It is also very interactive and you can have your glog link to other posters or to websites. For you next project make it a glog!  www.glogster.com

Animoto is a great way to create interesting videos for the class.  All you do is upload the photos you want to use, add the text, and pick a back ground song.  The rest it does for you.  The best part is they have an education one that is free for use in your classroom as long as you belong to a school!  Check out the simple one I made and then use it for yourself.  animoto.com/education

There will be more to come but this is a good start.
